BOSTON (October 2, 2017) – Forbes, Sound Ventures and Rough Draft Ventures (powered by General Catalyst) today announced that Medinas won the Forbes Global Change the World competition for young for-profit entrepreneurs as part of the 2017 Forbes Under 30 Summit, taking place October 1-4 in Boston.
Medinas, represented by founders Chloe Alpert, Jesse Avshalomov, Tim Growney, Romy Seth (SF, CA), is a data-driven exchange platform to help healthcare organizations monetize their near-expiry and surplus medical supplies to reduce costs. The company helps healthcare practices save money, so they can help save lives.
Judges for this competition included Sound Ventures Founding Partners Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary; Rough Draft Ventures Co-Founder, and General Catalyst Principal, Peter Boyce II; General Catalyst Managing Director, Holly Maloney McConnell; and Forbes Media CEO and Executive Chairman Mike Perlis.
Medinas received a $100K award from both Sound Ventures and Rough Draft Ventures (powered by General Catalyst). Forbes offered $300,000 in an in-kind media grant, bringing the total prize to $500,000.
Forbes collaborated with Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary, Co-Founders of Sound Ventures, as well as Boston-based Rough Draft Ventures (powered by General Catalyst), to host a $500,000 global competition for early stage for-profit entrepreneurs who have disruptive and scalable ideas with the potential to change the world for the better.
Ashton Kutcher, Guy Oseary and Forbes have committed to a three-year partnership (through 2018) to host for-profit competitions for entrepreneurs under the age of 30. Forbes hosted a similar competition during last year’s Forbes Under 30 Summit in Boston.
About the 2017 Forbes Under 30 Summit, October 1-4, Boston
The fourth annual Forbes Under 30 Summit, which will run October 1-4 in Boston, is expected to bring together more than 6,000 of the world’s top young entrepreneurs and game changers. The summit will take place at different venues in downtown Boston, including Faneuil Hall, MIT Media Lab and the University of Massachusetts Club.
Convening 200 world-class speakers – including investors, celebrities, musicians, fashion designers, sports stars, cultural icons, world-renowned chefs, educators, and political and business leaders, all of whom represent the entrepreneurial spirit of the Forbes Under 30 franchise – the Forbes Under 30 Summit serves as the definitive place to learn, network, collaborate, recruit and exchange ideas of the future.
There will be nine interconnected themed stages, which will include the Village, Tech, Create, Capital, Impact, Discover, Wealth Advisor, Ideas and Women@Forbes. Forbes will also transform Boston’s City Hall Plaza into a central village where all attendees will be able to network, view demonstrations and performances, seek career opportunities and unwind at a pop-up beer garden.
As part of the summit, Forbes will host an Under 30 Music Festival featuring leading music artists Zedd, Playboi Carti and Skylar Grey, and a Forbes Under 30 Food Festival headlined by America’s most notable young chefs. Closing the summit is a Boston-wide Service Day, which will involve summit participants giving back to the City of Boston by mentoring Boston’s youth.
